It is interesting to see the drastic impact of the switch from the third-person to first-person perspective on Visceral Games' 2008 title. RELATED: How Long Does It Take To Beat Dead Space Remake In addition to an immersive running animation, the new first-person mod for Dead Space also allows the player to zoom a bit closer. And it is safe to say that almost every aspect of their work seems smooth enough. The 13-minute-long showcase of the mod reveals how the modder tweaked the interfaces to better suit the first-person perspective. And it does that exceptionally well despite the lack of official support. Even though the 2008 title lacks the visual might of Dead Space remake, the original game now offers a different angle to take on the horrors of USG Ishimura thanks to a fan-made first-person mod.ĭeveloped by a modder called ReverseEngineeringGamer, Dead Space's first-person mod allows you to witness the perils of USG Ishimura from the very eyes of the protagonist Isaac Clarke. Overall, it makes the monsters feel as imposing as the first time a player saw them 15 years ago, but how the game is presented isn't the only change.A new first-person mod makes the original Dead Space even more horrifying. It also forces the player to soak in the melting eviscerated bodies of the necromorphs since their presence can now overwhelm the entire screen. This gives the player a better grasp of the size and the speed of the monsters as they ooze and shamble through the flickering rusty hallways. With the first-person mod, the necromorphs scuttling through the vents will be at eye level when they attack engineer Isaac Clarke. With an over-the-shoulder third-person camera, players look down onto enemies since the camera is floating slightly above the player's head, meaning the player will feel bigger than their foes. Obviously, in a literal sense, enemies are viewed in first-person, but now players will be looking at enemies head-on rather than looking down on them. One major change of the first-person mod is how the player views enemies. The original Dead Space was heralded for its claustrophobic and oppressive setting as well as its tense and nuanced combat, but that doesn't mean there isn't a new way to improve on an old formula.
